The Coronavirus issue is constantly evolving. News changes minute by minute and Premier Doug Ford has formally declared a state of emergency in Ontario. Toronto, therefore, is dealing with new measures just hoping to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Limit the gatherings to reduce the spread of the infection is of paramount importance. What is open and what is closed
All activities that guarantee essential services for the individual are open. Food, pharmacies, some bank branches, TTC, LCBO, GO Train and UP Express (reduced service). But also all those restaurants that guarantee takeaway service or home delivery. Shopping Malls (with reduced hours) and Toronto International Airport are open. However, churches, centers and community structures providing recreational programs are temporarily closed. Public libraries, public and private schools. All kindergartens and childcare centers authorized. Bars, discos, cafes and restaurants that do not offer home delivery. As well as casinos and many retail stores such as Nordstrom, Apple, Hudson’s Bay. According to the latest news, the activities of cinemas and theaters are stopped. What about gyms? They too have closed their doors but many offer free online fitness classes. A great way to spend time indoors.
News from the Italian Cultural Institute in Toronto and the Consulate
In hopes that this health situation will be resolved as soon as possible, the Italian Institute of Culture in Toronto also takes all the necessary measures to contain Coronavirus infection . It has been decided:
- The events organized by the Institute have been canceled or postponed until further notice. The cancellation / postponement of events that are in collaboration with other institutions shall be at the discretion of the partner institution. - The Gallery and Library in Downtown are closed until further notice.
- All language courses currently in progress at the Institute or off-site have been canceled or offered through alternative means.
- Language courses for the spring session, at the Institute or off-site, will be offered exclusively online.
Finally, the statement from the Consulate General of Italy in Toronto. “In application of the provisions of Directive 2/2020 of the Minister of Public Administration, the Consulate General will carry out activities strictly functional to the management of the epidemiological emergency from Covid-19 and the activities that cannot be postponed for users, which will be assessed on a case by case basis.”
